A heavy downpour has destroyed over 200 houses and shops, among other properties worth billions, in the Dangamau community of Kusada local government area of Katsina state.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has expressed sympathy to residents of the community after a rainstorm, describing the incident as painful and unfortunate.

He explained that the destruction caused by the heavy rainfall and windstorm had left many households in hardship following the loss of their homes and livelihoods.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Governor Radda conveyed his condolences to the victims on behalf of the state government and the people of Katsina.

“On behalf of the Government and the good people of Katsina State, I commiserate with the victims of this disaster in Dangamau. We feel your pain, and we will not leave you alone at this time,” the governor said.

Radda directed relevant government agencies to immediately assess the extent of the damage to ensure a prompt response to the disaster.

He assured the affected residents that the state government had already commenced efforts to provide emergency relief materials and other assistance to displaced households.

“Efforts are in top gear to bring succour to the displaced persons. Food, shelter and other basic needs will be provided without delay,” he said.

The governor also appealed to residents of the affected community to remain calm and cooperate with emergency response teams as the Government works to restore normalcy. He prayed for the safety of the residents and asked Allah to prevent a recurrence of such disasters in the state.

The rainstorm, which struck the Dangamau community during the week, destroyed more than 200 houses, shops and other valuable property, forcing many families from their homes.
