Rainstorm on Saturday night in Bauchi State killed four persons at the IBB Square in the metropolis, the venue of the ongoing 15th North East Trade Fair.
The six states in the North East zone and others are participating in the fair.
The fair’s venue was significantly affected. The storm damaged the Gombe and Yobe states’ pavilions and several business tents within the trade fair complex.
As a result of the incident, emergency response teams led by the police and other security agencies swiftly initiated search and rescue operatives where individuals were found under fallen structures and promptly taken to the hospital.
Confirming the incident yesterday, the police public relations officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil revealed that of the five individuals under the fallen structures, four of them lost their lives.
They are Abdullahi Abubakar, 38, of Yakubu Wanka Quarters; Sadiq Ahmed Alfa, 32, of Fadaman Mada Quarters; Malam Musa from Maliya Ventures, Tudun Salmanu Quarters, and Abdullahi Abdurrahman from Gombe State.
“The only surviving individual among the five persons involved in the incident is a female named Fatima Isa, 31 years of Inkil Quarters, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis, who is now receiving medical treatment and showing positive signs of recovery.”
Meanwhile, the authorities have taken necessary steps to address the storm’s aftermath, including depositing the deceased individuals at the mortuary. Efforts are underway to assess the extent of property damage caused by the storm.
After the incident, police presence will be maintained at IBB Square to ensure public safety and prevent criminal activities.
