Rainstorm Kills 6, Injures 60 In Jigawa

Rainstorm has killed six people, and injured 60 others in Kafin Hausa local government area of Jigawa State. Hundreds of houses and farmlands were also destroyed in the natural disaster. The torrential rainfall started around 7 pm on Tuesday and lasted till yesterday morning.

The chairman Kafin Hausa local government area, Hon Muhd Saminu Yahaya confirmed this in an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP. He said, even though rainfall is a blessing, this one came with disaster which led to the loss of lives and injuries while hundreds were rendered homeless.

 

Saminu said he inspected the area affected by the disaster and also visited those admitted in the hospital, describing the situation as very pathetic.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP one of the victims who is currently receiving treatment at Kafin Hausa General Hospital, Malam Salisu Garba aged 62, said the rainstorm destroyed the roof of his house which led to the collapse of some part of the house as a result of which he, his wife and five children sustained various degree of injuries.

 

“There was no death recorded in my house but two children were confirmed dead in my neighbour’s house as a result of the disaster,” he said.
The state government has sent a delegation led by special advisor to the state governor on community inclusion, Hamza Muhd Hadejia to sympathise with the victims.
