Rainstorm Renders Scores Homeless In Kogi

Rainstorm has rendered several people homeless while some others injured after destroying houses in Iyara, headquarters of Ijumu local government area of Kogi State.

An unspecified number of people were reported to have sustained injuries in the disaster.

A heavy rain which started minutes past 4pm and did not spare educational facilities in the town as some classrooms of Community High School, Iyara were destroyed by the storm.

LEADERSHIP gathered that there was no loss of life, and those injured are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

When LEADERSHIP visited the community, residents and citizens of Iyara were still trying to pick up their belongings from the rubbles while others were sought refuge in worship centres and schools that were not affected.

Mr. Mayomi Emmanuel, a farmer described the incident as disastrous  narrated how he lost several bags of his farm produce and grains kept for the planting season. 

He appealed to the government to come to their aid.

The president of Iyara Development Association, Alhaji Aliyu Badaki expressed sadness over the.

He called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), corporate organizations and  individuals to come to their aid.
