Rainstorm Wreaks Havoc In Kogi Community, Renders Hundreds Homeless

A devastating rainstorm has struck the Obeiba and Usungwe communities in Okehi local government area of Kogi State, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

The disaster, which occurred on Monday night has resulted in the destruction of over 100 houses including schools, rendering thousands of people homeless and vulnerable.

The chairman of Okehi local government area, Hon. Amoka Eneji, who was visibly moved when he visited the affected area on Monday to assess the damage, pledged to offer support for the people.

He was accompanied by the Councillor representing Obeiba 1 and Eika-ohizenyi Ward , Hon. Anako Aishat Okidi, Hon. Victoria Ohunene James and other members of his cabinet.

Hon. Amoka Eneji Monday took a tour of the affected areas, interacting with the victims and taking stock of the extent of the damage.

During his visit, Hon. Amoka Eneji commiserated with the community, expressing his deep sadness over the devastating impact of the rainstorm.

He assured the community of the government’s support and commitment to their welfare, particularly during this period of need.

Hon. Amoka Eneji emphasized that his administration, working in tandem with the state government led by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, prioritises the welfare and well-being of its citizens.

The chairman called on government agencies such as SEMA, NEMA and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to come to the aid of the affected communities, providing them with the necessary support and relief to rebuild their lives.

He assured the community that the local government would do everything possible to mitigate the effects of the disaster and provide assistance to those in need.

The community leaders and the victims appreciated the Chairman’s prompt visit to the disaster scene and assured him of their support for the APC government in the state.

They called on the state government and emergency management agencies at both the state and federal levels to assist them.
