In a show of compassion and commitment, the Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency (BASOVCA) has rolled out food support for 2,600 orphans and vulnerable persons across the state ahead of the 2026 Ramadan fast.
Flagging off the distribution exercise, the Agency’s Executive Chairperson, Yalwa Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, said the intervention is designed to cushion the biting effects of economic hardship, especially during the holy month when household expenses often surge.
“This is a time of reflection, sacrifice and compassion,” she noted, adding that many vulnerable families face increased financial strain during festive periods.
She added, “We must stand together to ensure no child or vulnerable person is left behind.”
The Ramadan support package includes 5kg bags of rice, sugar, groundnut oil and 100 wrappers, distributed to beneficiaries drawn from all 20 local government areas of Bauchi State.
But beyond seasonal relief, Hajiya Yalwa stressed that BASOVCA’s mission goes deeper, focusing on sustainable empowerment programmes aimed at improving the long-term welfare of orphans and vulnerable children.
She called for collective responsibility in supporting society’s most fragile groups, urging philanthropists, development partners, and well-meaning individuals to align with Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad’s social protection drive.
The BASOVCA boss also charged management staff and development partners to uphold fairness and transparency throughout the distribution process, ensuring that assistance reaches those who need it most.
