The Yobe State governor Hon Mai Mala Buni has approved the sum of N100, 000, 000.00 for the feeding of 16, 800 vulnerable and less privileged persons throughout the Ramadan period across the state.
The commissioner of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-orientation, Hon Yusuf Umar stated this while supervising the distribution of the food items to vendors and contractors that will handle the feeding in Damaturu.
Umar stated that the gesture was part of governor Buni’s measures towards reaching out to the people especially the less privileged in the society during the month of ramadan.
He said the government has so far expanded the feeding centres from the initial 67 to 84 with each centre expected to feed at least 200 people daily.
The commissioner further stated that for the Ramadan feeding programme, the Buni administration has approved the sum of N100 million adding that all food items and other ingredients has been distributed to food vendors and contractors for usage.
Umar, who charged the contractors and vendors to consider their job as a service to humanity by serving the food accordingly, equally stated that the government will monitor all their activities for value on the money spent.
“I would like to assure you that the Ministry would closely monitor the performance of the vendors and contractors with a view to ensuring that they adhere to the contractual agreement signed between them and the state government.
“His Excellency Hon Mai Mala Buni is passionate about the plight of the people especially the less privileged and as you can see he vested this on our hands hence we cannot fold our arms seeing any contractor or vendor compromising on the agreement reached.
“This is a holy month, a month that every muslim wants to benefit from the bounties of our creator, the Almighty hence the contractors should consider the assignment of feeding the people across the state as a privilege to serve humanity for reward in the hereafter.”
The commissioner used the forum and called on the people, especially the wealthy individuals, to complement the efforts of governor Mai Mala Buni by supporting the needy for a prosperous and more united society.
