As Muslims Worldwide prepare to commence the Ramadan fast in two days, depending on the sighting of a new crescent, an appeal has gone to Islamic preachers across Nigeria to observe decorum in their preaching and utterances during the holy month and beyond.
The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria‘s national coordinator (MMWG), Alh Ibrahim Abdullahi, called during an interview with LEADERSHIP in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Abdullahi enjoined the preachers to conduct themselves in the proper spiritual manners that would upscale the knowledge of true believers in the service of God and humanity at large.
He cautioned them against excessive lust for money, display of wealth and preaching the word of God in a manner unbecoming of true believers in Islam, adding that,“ they must be role models not only in preaching but also in actions and practices.
Abdullahi urged the preachers to seek God‘s forgiveness for their past excesses and resolve to follow the path of honour and dignity.
He warned some people parading themselves as Islamic scholars without adequate knowledge and those with evil characters to stay off media religious broadcasts.
He called on electronic media organisations in the country not to allow unqualified preachers to use their platforms for derogatory preaching, abusive utterances, and irresponsible vituperation, no matter the amount they might have been paid for programme sponsorship.
