Rapist Attempts Suicide In Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested 45-year-old Tsohon Tike Mayo Belwa for defiling a 10 year old girl.

A statement by the command’s spokesman, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the suspect, who is a neighbour to the victim’s parents, lured the girl into his room and forcefully had canal knowledge of her.

When he noticed the presence of people at the apartment as the news filtered out, he attempted to commit suicide.

 

Police said he is currently on admission, receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Yola.
“The incident was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Mayo Belwa by the victim’s father, Akure Usman alongside side other members of community.
“Preliminary investigation so far revealed that on same date at about 11:00hrs, the victim was sighted running out of the room of the suspect.
“Upon inquiries, the victim narrated what the suspect had done to him.
“Angered by the what the accused did, the neighbours immediately headed for his room.
“But when he saw the mob coming towards his room, he attempted killing himself by stabbing himself severally on the neck and stomach,” police said.
The state commissioner of police, Sikiru Akande, directed detectives from the State CID to take over investigation and ensure prosecution.
He advised those in the habit or nurturing such acts to desist as the command would always ensure law take its course.
