A church elder at the City of David Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Quincy Olasumbo Ayodele, has clarified that the iconic Trinity Towers was not solely built by the late chairman of Access Holdings, Pastor Herbert Wigwe, but was rather a product of collective efforts by the church members.
Speaking during an interview with On-Air Personality, Daddy Freeze, on Monday night, Ayodele sought to correct misconceptions surrounding the funding and construction of the tower.
She said: “Pastor Herbert Wigwe, it was not him that built Trinity Towers. Trinity Towers was built by collective efforts of all members of City of David plus him.
“We suddenly heard what happened to our brother, we were all devastated. So while I heard that the party (Pastor Iluyomade’s wife’s birthday) happened because I was not in the country. I said maybe mummy finally granted that he should go and do the party, that was my thought at that time.
“But the following day, I now started reading from the blog in the UK and I was like ‘o my God’.”
She also disclosed that the former Pastor of the parish, Idowu Iluyomade, did not just abandon the church but was told after serving his three-month suspension not to step into the parish again.
LEADERSHIP recalls that Wigwe, the late chairman of Access Holdings, tragically died in a helicopter crash on February 9, 2024, along with his wife and son, sending shockwaves through Nigeria’s business and religious communities, where he was highly regarded.
However, controversy arose when just days after his death, Pastor Iluyomade’s wife, Siju Iluyomade, hosted a lavish 60th birthday, sparking outrage and ultimately leading to her husband’s suspension from the RCCG’s City of David Parish.
Ayodele clarified that RCCG’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, intervened after public outcries over the situation.
However, after Iluyomade served his three-month suspension, he was officially informed that he was no longer allowed to step into the City of David premises.
“Daddy Adeboye came in because of the public cry to calm the public down. So he placed Pastor Idowu Iluyomade on suspension to be coming to Ebute Meta.
“The next thing we heard was that a letter was written to Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, while they were posting other pastors about, a letter was written to him that he must not enter City of David at all. The next we now read was that they said that he must not enter City of David.”
