Real Madrid have held constructive discussions with Jude Bellingham about a new contract that could keep the England midfielder at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2031, with Spanish media reporting the talks have been positive.
Bellingham, 23, has roughly two and a half years remaining on his current deal. Should an agreement be reached, he would commit his long-term future to Real Madrid, with the proposed extension reportedly running through 2031.
The midfielder joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in 2023 for 103m euros (£88.5m). He has since scored 49 goals in 152 appearances for the Spanish club.
In his first season, Bellingham helped Real Madrid win La Liga and the Champions League and established himself as one of Europe’s leading midfielders.
He has begun the current campaign under Jose Mourinho with three goals and three assists in nine games. That followed a strong World Cup in the summer, when he scored seven goals as England finished third and was named the national team’s men’s player of the year.
Bellingham’s record across his three completed La Liga seasons at Real Madrid highlights his importance to the club.
His debut campaign in 2023-24 was especially strong: 19 goals and six assists in 28 league appearances as Madrid won the title. His scoring output fell in 2024-25 to nine goals and eight assists, but he still showed he could create as well as score. In 2025-26, despite several injury problems, he added six goals and four assists in the league, and his early contributions in 2026-27 have further underlined his attacking value.
Since arriving at the Bernabeu, Bellingham has developed from a high-scoring midfielder into a player whose influence also comes through creativity, work rate and tactical flexibility. His ability to deliver in decisive moments has made him a favourite among Real Madrid supporters, who have responded to his passion, commitment and impact on the pitch.
That popularity, together with his importance to the team, makes him a valuable asset on and off the field. An improved contract would reflect his standing in the squad and help Real Madrid secure the long-term future of a player expected to remain central to their domestic and European ambitions.
At 23, Bellingham still has several peak years ahead, making a renewal a potentially significant investment in the club’s future.
