Alhassan gave the advice during the 13th induction ceremony of the 178 foreign-trained nurses on Friday in Abuja.

The nurses were trained in various fields of the nursing profession in various countries including Turkey, Philippines, Morocco and India among other countries.

Alhassan stated that the essence of the event was to admit the inductees  into the register of nursing, which empowered them to go and practice as nurses.

“The whole essence of nursing is to promote health, prevent illness and alleviate suffering or even to help a patient die a peaceful death.

“That’s the essence of nursing and that is what we expect them to go into the field to practice in caring for the patients. They should consider the patients  as  unique individuals, who have their own rights of desire.,” he said.

Alhassan expressed delight that the profession itself was growing on a daily basis from strength to strength, adding that Nigerian nurses were the best sought world-over in recent times.

One of the parents, Alhaji Muhammed Baba-Busu, Jakada Labarin Nupe, Zonal Manager, News Agency of Nigeria expressed happiness to have been able to witness his daughter’s induction into the nursing profession.

“We, the family of Baba-busu are very grateful to the almighty God who stood by her and who gave us the wherewithal to ensure that she actualised her dream of becoming a professional nurse.

“We are also grateful to the Federal Government that created the enabling environment that allowed them to study abroad without much hitches,” he said.

An inductee, Bilkis Baba-Busu, expressed delight and thanked God almighty, who had been the pillar behind her successful completion of the training as a registered nurse in faraway Morocco.

Baba-Busu promised to bring the experience she garnered to bear in the discharge of her duties as a registered nurse as well as contributing her quota to the development of the nation’s health sector..
