The Member representing Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo State in the House of Representatives and Caucus Leader of Action Peoples Party (APP), Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, to consider a political solution to the ongoing case involving detained leader of the prescribed IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Ugochinyere made the appeal when he held an interactive session with his constituents convened under the Ideato Peoples Assembly at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja

He stated that the release of Kanu would significantly consolidate ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the South-East region.

“I want to appeal to the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to seek a political solution to the issue of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” he said.

“As a political party, we strongly believe that consolidating the current peace process will be faster when he is released. This will also prevent future misconduct driven by perceptions of injustice.”

He further urged the President to exercise his constitutional powers, including the option of discontinuing the case or granting a pardon.

“All the President needs to do is to discontinue the case. He has the constitutional powers to issue a pardon and allow him return home,” Ugochinyere added

The lawmaker noted that such a move would be widely credited to President Tinubu as a decisive step toward ending a prolonged crisis.

“It will be to his credit as the leader who ended the nightmare that began under the previous administration. We are appealing and calling on the President to release Nnamdi Kanu so that he can return to his people. This will pave the way for full reconciliation and address concerns of marginalization in the region.”

He expressed optimism that the President would give the appeal due consideration in the interest of national unity and lasting peace.
