Niger State government has received N1 billion for the victims of flood, banditry, boat accident and fire disasters across the state from Governing Council of Renewed Hope Initiative.
Also, the first lady and national chairman of Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has distributed the sum of N500 million as cash relief to victims of the flood disaster in the Adamawa State capital, Yola.
Mrs Tinubu made the announcement yesterday at the Government House, Minna, during a visit the state.
She said the money will be accompanied with relief materials which included 2000 bags of 50KG of rice, clothes and shoes.
The wife of the president stated that the funds should be directed towards housing support and essential supplies to help the displaced families get back on their feet,earn a living, and have a better life.
She said it was in line with the objectives of the renewed hope initiative, adding that the purpose of the visit was to condole with the governor and people of the state over the devastating floods, banditry, boat mishap and fire disasters.
She expressed her empathy to the affected persons, adding that she shares in the pains and grief of the affected victims’ families and expressed optimism that the challenges can be overcome.
The first lady acknowledged the president’s swift response and added that the support provided by the renewed hope initiative complements the government’s efforts to alleviate victims’ sufferings.
Niger State governor Mohammed Umaru Bago thanked the first lady for her kindness and generosity to the people of Niger State, as she had earlier supported other victims of disasters.
Governor Bago said her efforts through the renewed hope initiative would go a long way toward changing the lives of disaster victims.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu has also distributed N500 million in cash relief to victims of the flood disaster in the Adamawa State capital, Yola.
On Tuesday, the First Lady, acting under the auspices of the RHI, performed the symbolic distribution of the money in Yola and also announced the donation of 100 bales of ankara fabrics as well as some other relief items to the flood victims.
Represented on the occasion by wife of the vice president and national vice chairman of the RHI, Hajiya Nana Shettima, Remi Tinubu explained that the donations were made possible by donors to the RHI, including a charity organisation, Abdulsamad Rabiu Africa Initiative.
A few of the 1,800 households identified as having been directly affected by the Yola flood were presented with their share of the relief items in a symbolic distribution during the event, which took place at the Banquet Hall of the Governor ‘s House, Yola.
Speaking for his people, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State thanked the first lady for intervening in the state’s time of need.
Fintiri spoke through his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, who gave an update on the flood. He announced that the human casualty following the flood had been ascertained to be 29 as at a review of the flood’s effects on Monday, August 4.
“As a government, we have done a lot to provide relief,” he said, adding that the government would ensure that the donations from the first lady get to the people for whom they are intended.
She thanked the first lady for mobilising the relief intervention at a time of crisis when it was most needed.
