First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu, has met with the wife of the inspector-general of police (IGP), Mrs Mutiat Disu, at the State House, Abuja, urging her to continue to ensure the welfare of wives of police officers.

According to a statement by the media aide of the first lady, Busola Kukoyi, after the closed-door meeting, Mrs Mutiat Disu said she was ready to take advantage of various programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to empower police officers’ wives in the country.

Mrs Disu, who is also the national president of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), said she had learnt more from the first lady during their interaction and would leverage RHI programmes to improve the health, welfare and empowerment of POWA members.

“The purpose of visiting her is to tap from her wealth of experiences and to know about programmes she has for the masses, to see how the POWA can benefit from the programmes,” she said.

“I have learnt so much from her within this short period that I have spoken with her, and I am sure that by the time I start working with her, my people will benefit more from the RHI programmes. We will be looking at the RHI social intervention and healthcare for police families, too.”

She added, “What the people should expect from me is that I am ready to work with Mama on this RHI as it affects our women, since the RHI is basically for women and POWA is dominated by women.”
