Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has called for urgent national efforts to combat drug abuse and dismantle organised crime, declaring that prevention is the most powerful tool in protecting the youths.
Senator Tinubu, in a statement issued to mark the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, emphasised that the nation must act decisively to shield its young people from the dangers of drugs and criminal networks.
“The evidence is clear: when we invest in prevention, we protect lives,” she said. “Every child in Nigeria deserves to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment, free from the devastating grip of drug abuse and the threats of organised crime.”
This year’s theme, “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention. Break the cycle. #StopOrganizedCrime”, echoes the First Lady’s consistent advocacy for youth development and national healing through community engagement, education, and family support.
The First Lady, who leads several youth-focused initiatives under the Renewed Hope Initiative, called on leaders at all levels, parents, teachers, and community members to play their part in creating a healthier, drug-free Nigeria.
“Our responsibility is to positively engage our youth, support our families, and raise awareness.
“Together, we can build a healthier, safer, and more resilient Nigeria,” the Nigerian First Lady added.
