Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed; Minister of Health, Professor Ali Pate alongside development partners, members of the National Assembly, health experts, civil society organisations and media representatives were being expected to grace a two-day maiden edition of Gombe Health Summit between October 2 and 3, 2025.
The gathering was conceived towards tackling health sector challenges, showcasing recent reforms and projects, and mobilising partners for accelerated service delivery.
Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Habu Dahiru, disclosed this in a press briefing on Wednesday in Gombe.
While in the State, Dr. Dahiru said the First Lady will preside over the commissioning of the new College of Nursing in Gombe and the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Kumo, Akko local government area of the State.
“The summit will also give us the opportunity to showcase our strides in areas of policies, reforms, programs and projects in the healthcare development delivery in Gombe State,” he said.
The commissioner emphasised that the gathering will bring together both health and non-health stakeholders to map out practical steps for further improvement in the sector.
He added that an emergency health call centre will be launched during the event while ambulances will also be deployed across the state.
“The initiative is poised to revolutionise emergency healthcare services in the state,” the commissioner said.
Dr. Dahiru added that the new system will enable families to contact health authorities quickly for timely evacuation to hospitals.
He explained that the programme themed: “Transforming the Health System Sector in Gombe State: Accomplishments, Challenges and the Next Frontiers” will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, expert presentations and sessions designed to produce actionable recommendations for policymakers and partners.
The commissioner added that the two-day summit will also celebrate recent gains and set priorities for improving access, emergency response, workforce development and infrastructure.
