Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians living abroad to demonstrate greater commitment to the development of their home country by supporting ongoing efforts to rebuild the nation.

She made the call while receiving the President and Chief Executive Officer of Montefiore Medicine, Dr. Phillip Ozuah, at the State House in Abuja. Dr. Ozuah, a globally renowned pediatrician and philanthropist of Nigerian descent, was in the country on a courtesy visit.

Senator Tinubu, in a statement by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, on Friday, commended Dr. Ozuah for his achievements in the United States and his ongoing support for institutions back home, particularly the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan — his alma mater.

“We are proud that a Nigerian is doing so well in the US,” she said. “It is a good thing that you have also looked back and helped your alma mater, University College Hospital, Ibadan. For you to start with education is a great thing indeed.”

Highlighting the ongoing efforts of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a social intervention platform she spearheads, the First Lady emphasised her focus on education and maternal and child health.

“Through the Renewed Hope Initiative, we are doing a lot in the area of education and healthcare, especially targeting women and children,” she said. “We encourage more Nigerians in the diaspora to contribute their expertise and resources towards nation-building.”

In his remarks, Dr. Ozuah praised the First Lady for her tireless advocacy both locally and internationally, noting that her initiatives in maternal and child health were not only impactful but also inspiring.

“Your passion and actions in health and education are commendable,” he said. “I am deeply inspired by what you are doing with the Renewed Hope Initiative and look forward to exploring ways we can collaborate to extend these benefits to more women and children across Nigeria.”

Dr. Ozuah also reaffirmed his commitment to giving back to Nigeria and hinted at further partnerships with key institutions to support national development.
