The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to use social media as a tool for promoting kindness, encouragement and positive engagement.
In a message to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Happiness on March 20, the First Lady said the theme: “Caring and Sharing,” underscores the need for individuals to recognise that happiness is not only a personal pursuit but a shared responsibility.
She noted that in an era where people are increasingly connected through digital platforms, there is a growing need to ensure that online spaces are used to uplift others rather than spread division or despair.
According to her, Nigerians must consciously deploy their voices, both online and offline, to inspire unity and foster a culture of empathy and compassion.
“Let us use our voices, both online and offline, to uplift, inspire, and unite,” she said.
The First Lady also emphasised the importance of instilling values of kindness and shared happiness in younger generations, urging parents and guardians to teach children that happiness grows when it is shared.
She added that building a better society requires a collective commitment to caring for one another and promoting responsible use of social media.
“When we care for one another, we all thrive,” she said.
Tinubu reiterated the need for empathy, compassion and responsible digital behaviour as essential values in shaping a more united and progressive Nigeria.
