The First Lady Remi Tinubu has asked friends, associates, and admirers to convert their goodwill gestures for her forthcoming 65th birthday into contributions for the completion of the long-delayed National Library project.

In a video message released on Monday, Mrs. Tinubu announced that she would celebrate her birthday on Sunday, September 21, 2025, in quiet reflection and thanksgiving to God, and appealed to well-wishers to forgo the traditional exchange of cards, cakes, flowers, or newspaper adverts.

“I wish to appeal to those who would like to send a birthday card, cakes, flowers, greetings in the newspapers or gifts, should please send the funds to the designated account for a special project close to my heart, among many others, the completion of the National Library. This will be the best birthday present I could receive,” she said.

The First Lady explained that her lifelong passion for education inspired her choice, stressing that the project represents a vital investment in Nigeria’s intellectual and cultural growth.

According to her, the initiative will be coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Education under the banner #Oluremi@65EducationFund.

“By the special grace of God, I will be turning 65 years old on the 21st September 2025 and this happens to be a Sunday, this is why I have decided to dedicate the day to God for all His blessings in my life and having a quiet birthday,” she added.

Mrs. Tinubu emphasised that education remains one of the most enduring legacies any nation can build for its people, adding that the National Library, once completed, will serve as a lasting symbol of Nigeria’s commitment to learning and research.

She thanked Nigerians in advance for supporting the cause, saying: “Thank you for joining me in this building project. God bless you.”
