Residents of Na-Alma community in Katsina State have raised alarm over renewed attacks by armed bandits that have left unconfirmed number of people dead and others abducted over the past week.
A resident, Alhaji Umar Usman, lamented that the community has been under siege for days, with little or no response from security operatives despite repeated reports.
Usman said the latest incident occurred on Sunday, when two persons were killed and two others abducted, barely days after a similar attack on Thursday last week.
According to him, no fewer than five persons have been killed since last Monday, with several others kidnapped in a series of assaults that have spread fear across the area.
“We have been reporting the situation, but nothing has been done. Every night, we live in fear because these people come freely without any resistance,” Usman said.
He added that neighbouring communities are also facing similar attacks, describing the peace negotiation deal with the bandits as a mere deception that has only given them room to regroup and intensify their operations.
Umar called on the Katsina State Government and security agencies to come to their aid, saying residents were losing hope as the attacks continue unabated.
The renewed wave of violence in the area highlights growing concerns about the fragile peace in parts of the state, where banditry has displaced thousands and disrupted farming and other rural livelihoods.
