The Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Kogi State have flagged off the distribution of rice to support residents observing the Ramadan and Lenten fasting periods.
The exercise, which began in Lokoja, involved allocating rice to Local Government Coordinators for onward distribution to Muslim and Christian faithful across the state.
The initiative follows a directive from Bola Ahmed Tinubu to distribute food items nationwide to cushion the impact of the fasting season on Nigerians.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Kogi State Coordinator of the group, Hon. Abdulaziz Idris King, said the intervention is aimed at supporting indigent families and easing the burden of rising costs during the sacred period.
He noted that the gesture would enable households, regardless of financial status, to meaningfully observe and celebrate the season.
The coordinator expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for what he described as a demonstration of compassion and commitment to citizens’ welfare.
He also commended Hope Uzodinma, the group’s Director-General, for his leadership and coordination of the initiative nationwide.
Hon. King further appreciated Ahmed Usman Ododo for his continued support and commitment to the development of the state, as well as Umar Tanko Al-Makura, North Central Zonal Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, for his role in ensuring the success of the distribution exercise.
Receiving the consignment for Olamaboro Local Government Area, the council’s coordinator, Comrade Hassan Ayuba, described the intervention as timely and impactful.
“It is indeed wonderful and highly timely, considering the challenges people are currently facing. This shows that the President understands the plight of Nigerians,” he said.
Ayuba assured that the rice would be fairly distributed across all groups in the local government, including party members, supporters, and the general public.
Similarly, the Coordinator of Ajaokuta Local Government Area, Mr Muhammed Yusuf, described the initiative as a strategic effort to connect government policies with the grassroots, emphasising the role of coordinators in reaching citizens at the community level.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of Lokoja Local Government Area,
Hon. Adams Bala Justice, who represented Kogi West coordinators, said the initiative reflects a direct link between leadership and the people.
“This gesture from the President is a step in the right direction. It shows he understands the needs of the people and is reaching them through grassroots structures,” he said.
He urged residents to support the continuity of the current administration at both the federal and state levels to fully realise the benefits of governance.
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Kogi reaffirmed their support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the initiative continues to provide relief and hope to Nigerians.
It would be recalled that President Tinubu recently directed the ambassadors to commence the nationwide distribution of rice to support citizens during the Ramadan and Lenten seasons.
