The member representing Kiru/Bebeji federal Constituency of Kano and Chairman, House of Representatives’ Committee on Housing and Habitat, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa has called for immediate reconciliation between former Kano State governors, Engr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Jibrin described the ongoing feud between the two political leaders as “unfortunate and detrimental” to the progress of Kano State.

Speaking during a radio interview in Kano, Jibrin highlighted the need for unity between the state’s political heavyweights, urging well-meaning citizens to actively support reconciliation efforts.

“We will do our level best to ensure that they reconcile, no matter what,” Jibrin said. “When these two mega powers join forces, it will benefit the progress of Kano State. I believe they can work towards development, while maintaining their different political inclinations.”

Jibrin lauded the significant contributions of both leaders to public service, emphasising their shared history of dedication to the state and the nation.

“As Muslims, it is our duty to do the right thing by reconciling them. They were once close friends and accomplished many things together. What is happening now is sad and painful, so we should all work towards ensuring that peace and unity prevail,” the lawmaker said.

As part of his appeal, Jibrin encouraged the two leaders to demonstrate goodwill by attending each other’s family events despite their political differences. “Let us see Kwankwaso attending the wedding of Ganduje’s daughter and Ganduje attending the wedding of Kwankwaso’s son. Politics is their choice, but reconciliation is our duty,” he stated.

LEADERSHIP reports that the lingering dispute between the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general election, Kwankwaso, and the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ganduje, has long divided political loyalists in Kano, a state where the influence of both leaders have remained strong.
