Reports Of Military Mutiny False – Security Forum

Security stakeholders across the country have dismissed reports alleging that elements within the Nigerian military are planning a mutiny, describing the claims as false, misleading, and capable of undermining national stability.

The stakeholders, including security analysts, civil society leaders, and retired military officers, under the aegis National Security and Civic Stability Forum (NSCSF) said there is no credible evidence to support the allegations and warned Nigerians against giving attention to unverified media reports that could create fear and distrust.

The spokesperson of the forum, Niyi Jimoh, in a press statement on Monday, said the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain firmly loyal to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to the democratically elected government.

They emphasised that the military leadership, under the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, continues to uphold professionalism, discipline, and respect for civilian authority.

“The Nigerian military has evolved significantly over the years and is guided by strong institutional values,” they noted.

“Under the current leadership, the chain of command is intact, morale remains stable, and there is no indication of any mutinous activity.”

The stakeholders cautioned that reports suggesting internal unrest within the Armed Forces could embolden criminal elements and negatively affect ongoing security operations across the country.

They stressed that such narratives should be treated with caution, especially when they originate from unnamed sources.

They also commended the Defence Headquarters for its consistent emphasis on constitutional loyalty and operational transparency, noting that the Armed Forces have continued to play their role in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and democratic order.

At a time when the nation faces security and economic challenges, the stakeholders urged Nigerians to remain united and to seek information from official and credible sources. They called on the media to exercise responsibility in reporting security-related matters, in the interest of peace and national cohesion.

They reaffirmed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain a stabilising force, committed to defending the nation and upholding the Constitution, and urged citizens to reject misinformation capable of eroding public confidence in national institutions.
