The chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works on the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, Hon. Akin Alabi, has commended the pace of work on the ongoing 700km coastal highway project, saying the project is timely and reassuring with the quality of reinforcements and technicalities deployed.

The House committee vowed that the unprecedented level of work would further strengthen the approval of appropriation bills for the Ministry of Works to boost infrastructure projects.

Alabi affirmed that the Ministry of Works encountered problematic areas when shelving realignment was needed to save submarine cables and substations, compensation was paid to affected property owners, and the swampy regions were encountered while starting the project.

While conducting an independent oversight inspection of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, the committee chairman applauded Hi-Tech Construction Company for bolstering infrastructure with the quick pace of work and commitments to nation-building.

He noted that the coastal road is a legacy project of President Tinubu’s administration, created to improve infrastructure and save travel time.

He also explained that, upon completion, the project will boost every sector of the economy, including real estate, transportation, housing estates, commercial centres, observation rooms, and tolling points.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Hi-Tech Construction Company, Danny Abhoud, said they are having challenges with the swampy areas but asserted that they will come up with extensive study designs to minimise the effects on the Federal government and deliver the 47km sections for another commissioning in December.

Also speaking, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, applauded the performance of Hi-Tech Construction Company and stated that they have done more jobs than all the payments they’ve received.
