Sponsored by Hon. Jeremiah Umaru, the proposed legislation is titled “A Bill for an Act to Amend the Federal Medical Centre Act, to Provide for Establishment of Federal Medical Centre, Sisinbaki Wamba, Nasarawa State and for Related Matters (HB. 709).”
When established, the Federal Medical Centre will help in improving healthcare access for the residents of Sisinbaki, Wamba, Farin Ruwa, Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon, some parts of Plateau State and Sanga local government area of Kaduna State.

Leading debate on the general principles of the bill, Hon. The lawmaker said the Federal Medical Centre will provide access to specialised medical services and facilities that may not be readily available in other healthcare facilities in the area.
He said the Federal Medical Centre, when equipped with modern medical equipment and staffed with qualified healthcare professionals, will ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services to the local communities and reduce the rate of medical tourism abroad.

“The FMC offers specialised medical care, advanced treatment options, and diagnostic services that cater to a wide range of healthcare needs, including surgeries, maternity care, emergency services, and more. Healthcare infrastructure.
“The establishment of the FMC will contribute to the development of healthcare infrastructure in the region, which is essential for addressing the healthcare needs of the growing population. Capacity Building: The FMC provides opportunities for capacity building and training for healthcare professionals, which helps in enhancing the skills and expertise of the local workforce.

“The presence of a Federal Medical Centre can contribute to economic development in the region by creating job opportunities, attracting healthcare professionals and stimulating growth in related industries. The MC plays a crucial role in promoting public health, disease prevention and health education initiatives in the community, leading to improved health outcomes and well-being.
