The House of Representatives’ committee on sports has summoned the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to come and explain why they were engulfed in the FIFA-money crisis with the Super Falcons at the Women’s World Cup.
Super Falcons put up a spectacular performance at the global women soccer showpiece that earned the team receiving plaudits across the world despite exiting the competition in the round of 16 following a 4-2 defeat on penalty to England.
The team has backlogs of unpaid bonuses and allowances issues before the commencement of the mundial but swept it aside to allow them concentrate on the world cup assignment. The social media was agog with different football stakeholders urging the NFF to pay the players their entitlements. This dragged the federation and Nigeria names in the mud.
The House Committee on Sports is bothered and had to invite the federation to explain the reason the team has not been paid since 2021.
The hearing into the matter which is scheduled for Tuesday is to find a lasting solution to the lingering backlogs of unpaid bonuses to the national teams.
