House of Representatives has asked the Inspector-General of Police to urgently deploy more police officers to Sanga local government area of Kaduna State attacked by unknown gunmen who killed six people and injured many on Sunday.

The House also urged the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army as well as the Department of State Services (DSS) to collaborate and ensure the culprits are brought to book while calling on the relevant ministry and agencies to provide food and nonfood items to the affected victims.

These followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Hon Daniel Amos (PDP, Kaduna) at plenary, yesterday.

Moving the motion, Amos noted that at about 7pm on Sunday, May 5, 2024, in Ambe an outskirts of Gwantu, Sanga local government area of Kaduna State, two unknown gunmen arrived on two motorcycles at a birthday celebration venue and killed six people and injured many.

He informed that the youths of the area summoned courage to apprehend one of the gunmen with his motorcycle and gun who was later handed over to the soldiers on special duty there.

The lawmaker noted that some of the victims are currently receiving treatment at the University Teaching Hospital Jos while residents of the community are still traumatised over the losses and level of insecurity resulting from the attack.

The House similarly urged the Inspector General of Police, Chief of Army Staff, Director General of DSS and National Security Adviser (NSA) to deploy more security personnel to Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu State for increased security surveillance and support to avert incessant kidnappings and killings.

This was sequel to adoption of a motion moved by Hon Martins Oke from Enugu at plenary noting that recently a group of gunmen attacked part of the local government and killed three persons while another attack on Nimbo led to the gruesome murder of 16 persons.

The lawmaker expressed worry that; “these criminal elements have continued these serial kidnappings and killings despite the presence of three police divisions in the local government which have obviously been overstretched.”
