Residents of Adokasa in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have called on Governor Abdullahi Sule to urgently intervene in the abandoned road project in their community.

The Adokasa road, which was initiated to rehabilitate a once dangerous route, was intended to improve access for residents, ease transportation, and boost the movement of farm produce and local trade.

However, locals say contractors have deserted the site, leaving the project uncompleted as the rainy season sets in.

The unfinished stretch has already begun to deteriorate, with potholes reappearing and making travel difficult.

One resident, Mr Tanko Philip, expressed frustration over the situation. He said he believes the governor is unaware that the project has been abandoned midway. According to him, conflicting reports surround the contractors’ withdrawal.

Some residents claim the contractors have not been paid, while others allege they collected the full contract sum and disappeared. Philip insisted that the contractors must return to complete the job.

Another resident, who requested anonymity, accused authorities of neglecting the community.

“They think we are villagers without a voice, but they are mistaken. We will continue to draw the government’s attention to this issue,” he said.

Governor Sule had previously raised concerns about the slow pace of work by contractors across the state, urging them to accelerate project delivery before the rains.

The Adokasa road forms part of the state government’s wider infrastructure programme, which includes a 2.6km twin flyover in Mararaba and the construction of 1km roads in each of the 13 Local Government Areas.

In early 2026, the Nasarawa State Government approved about N13 billion for road projects aimed at boosting connectivity and economic activity across the state.

Despite these commitments, Adokasa residents say the abandoned project has left them facing renewed hardship.

They are appealing for swift government action to ensure the road is completed, stressing that improved infrastructure is critical to their livelihoods and the local economy, especially with the rains now underway.
