Restore Fuel Subsidy, Cleric Tells Tinubu

The Archbishop of Living Christ Mission, Most Rev Daddy Hezekiah, has called on the federal government to restore fuel subsidies to cushion the effect of high-priced commodities and services within the country.

Hezekiah called on Sunday, during the Father’s Day and international pastors conference at the church‘s administrative headquarters in Onitsha, Anambra state.

He regretted that removing the subsidy had caused untold hardship for Nigerians.

According to him, one effective way to address the devastating hunger in Nigeria is to restore fuel subsidies to cushion the effect of high-priced commodities.

The cleric appealed to President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the decision to ban the single use of plastics in government offices as a prelude to a nationwide ban set to begin in January 2025. The move could stir a storm in a country hugely dependent on plastic bottles, small water sachets, takeaway containers, and Styrofoam, as the Minister of State for Environment announced.

According to him, the move was an anti-people policy that would further increase the suffering of the masses. He said, “Polythene bags do not destroy Nigeria, but corruption, perversion of justice, rigging of elections, and oppressions. Banning polythene bags and changing the national anthem is not the nation’s priority.”

He regretted that Nigeria was in the hands of leaders who could not solve the problems. „The country is in a bondage and fearful situation and needs positive policies as election rigging, injustice, and other evil vices are haunting the country,” he said.

Hezekiah called on Nigerians to resist the temptation of anything capable of causing war, noting that war is never the solution to the nation’s problems; instead, seeking the face of God through prayers is the only way out.

Further, he appealed to Christians to live righteously as God is ever near to those who live spiritually, saying there is no condemnation against those in Christ Jesus who walk in the spirit.
