Returning Officer Of Adamawa Gov’ship Poll Emerges Vice Chancellor

The returning officer of the 2023 governorship election in Adamawa State, Prof. Mohammed Laminu Mele, has emerged the acting vice chancellor of the University of Maiduguri for a period of six months.

Mele, who took over the office from Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aliyu Shugaba, was renowned for his resilience in the controversial Adamawa State governorship election, where he worked against all odds to declare the rightful winner of the election.

Mele’s emergence as the vice chancellor followed the expiration of the 5-year tenure of the outgone  Vice-chancellor, University of Maiduguri, Prof Aliyu Shugaba.

Shugaba, on Monday, handed over the mantle of leadership to Mele, who, until this new appointment, was the deputy vice-chancellor, Central Administration of the University.

At a special meeting of the Senate held the same day at the Senate Chamber of the University, Prof Shugaba thanked the Senate, members of staff and students of the University for the unalloyed support accorded him during his tenure in office.

A statement issued from the protocol unit by Mukhtar Ahmad Jada, which was obtained by LEADERSHIP, said the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Mele, while delivering his remark extolled the outgoing Vice-chancellor’s leadership and administrative style and thanked him for taking the University to greater height.

 

 

“While soliciting for the cooperation of the University community, he prayed for the continuous peace and progress of the University,” the statement reads.
