Mele, who took over the office from Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aliyu Shugaba, was renowned for his resilience in the controversial Adamawa State governorship election, where he worked against all odds to declare the rightful winner of the election.

Mele’s emergence as the vice chancellor followed the expiration of the 5-year tenure of the outgone  Vice-chancellor, University of Maiduguri, Prof Aliyu Shugaba.

Shugaba, on Monday, handed over the mantle of leadership to Mele, who, until this new appointment, was the deputy vice-chancellor, Central Administration of the University.

At a special meeting of the Senate held the same day at the Senate Chamber of the University, Prof Shugaba thanked the Senate, members of staff and students of the University for the unalloyed support accorded him during his tenure in office.
