The Yobe State Internal Revenue Service (YSIRS) has generated over ₦12 billion between January and September, out of the ₦14 billion revenue target approved for the agency in the 2025 Finance Bill. This is even as the chairman of the revenue body seeks blockage of leakages.
The executive chairman of the Agency, Alhaji Suleiman Bakura Jibrin, disclosed this during the agency’s 2026 budget defence before the House Standing Committee on Finance and Appropriation.
Alhaji Bakura appealed to the House to intervene and ensure that all revenue-generating agencies, including local governments, remit their revenues directly into the Internal Revenue Service account to block leakages.
According to him, the state is losing substantial revenue due to the failure of some agencies to operate a single treasury account for revenue collection.
Our correspondent gathered that, the Ministries of Finance, Budget, Youth and Sports, as well as the Fiscal Responsibility Board, State and Local Governments Audit Department, and the Audit Service Board have also appeared before the House and defend their respective 2026 budget proposals.
