The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) has targeted 250 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) across the 36 states of the country for N200,000 grant each to recapitalise their businesses.
Wife of the president, Oluremi Tinubu, announced this yesterday during the launch of the RHI food outreach to vulnerable citizens in Abia State in Umuahia, the state capital.
Represented by the wife of the vice president, Nana Shettima, the first lady said the RHI was also engaged in educational development programmes among other interventions.
“We will distribute 10,000 packs, a year’s supply of sanitary pads to each of our young girls, particularly those in rural communities in each state to encourage them to remain in school during their menstrual cycle.
“These program aims to further complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration of President Bola Tinubu in making life better for our people,” she said.
She implored beneficiaries of the outreach not to sell the items as they were intended to support their families and thanked the state’s RHI coordinator, the wife of the governor, Priscilla Otti, for her support.
Governor Alex Otti commended the first lady for her compassion and unwavering support for vulnerable citizens amid the current economic challenges facing the country.
Otti highlighted his administration’s commitment to social welfare, noting that one of his first actions in office was the creation of the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection.
“In several communities, women cooperative groups have been set up to access grants and zero to low interest rate facilities to establish businesses along the agricultural value chains,” he noted.
In an address of welcome the State RHI coordinator, expressed appreciation to the RHI and the wife of the president for their enduring commitment to lifting families out of poverty and hunger.
She inform that the state government had provided 3,000 bags of 10kg rice to support the programme, adding that the items would be distributed to vulnerable citizens across the state.
