Prominent social commentator and advocate for justice, Alvedor Weaver, has called for due process in the trial of the managing director of Felak Concept Group, Aisha Achimugu, accused of financial misconduct by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He insisted that the case must be adjudicated within the framework of the judiciary rather than being tried in the court of public opinion, where narratives could be manipulated and reputations tarnished without substantiated proof.

Weaver, who voiced his concerns in Abuja yesterday expressed dismay at the growing wave of digital vilification against Achimugu and condemned what he described as an “orchestrated smear campaign.”

He suggested that the allegations are designed to undermine Achimugu’s reputation, asserting that she is currently overseas for professional engagements, not for medical treatment as some reports claim.

Criticizing the manner in which the case is being handled, Weaver stressed that Achimugu’s fundamental rights are being trampled upon and pointed out that despite being overseas on official business, she is being denied the presumption of innocence, which is a cornerstone of any just legal system.

He emphasized that Achimugu’s professional credibility, built over years of diligence and integrity, is being unfairly attacked.

Highlighting her extensive contributions to the Nigerian economy, Weaver noted, “Aisha Achimugu is not just a business leader; she is a beacon of ingenuity and tenacity.

Through Felak Concept Group, she has championed economic transformation, created employment, and spearheaded policy innovations that have positively impacted several industries. It is disheartening that instead of acknowledging her efforts, she is being subjected to unwarranted defamation.”

“Where is the equity in this situation? Where is the empathy for a widow, a mother, and a trailblazer who has contributed immensely to our national growth?” he said.

He added, “If Aisha was truly complicit in financial misconduct, how did the same administration that awarded her two oil blocks now seek to discredit her? If corruption is the issue, why are others involved in similar dealings not facing the same scrutiny?

She is not in the limelight for personal gain but because of her hard work and dedication. It is unfortunate that her success is being weaponized against her.

“This is beyond Aisha; it concerns the future of Nigeria. If an accomplished figure like her can be vilified without concrete evidence, what hope remains for the ordinary citizen?” he queried.
