A civic group, the Transparency Centre Network (TCN), has urged the inspector-general of police to enforce a recent Court of Appeal ruling by removing unauthorised persons from local government secretariats across Osun State.
At a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, TCN executive director Comrade Ayuba Ahmed condemned what he described as the previous administration’s functionaries’ “brazen and illegal usurpation of public office.”
Ahmed called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to mobilise its members to defend judicial authority, stating that silence in the face of such illegality would amount to complicity.
He also appealed to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to monitor the situation and intervene where the rights of duly appointed officials are being violated.
The group criticised the continued occupation of council offices by All Progressives Congress (APC) members, despite a Court of Appeal ruling nullifying their election as illegal and unconstitutional.
“We align fully with the position of Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), who described this disregard for court rulings as a threat to democracy,” Ahmed stated.
TCN further called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi to uphold the rule of law and swiftly restore legal order in Osun’s local governance.
