Rivalry, Division Among Clearing Agents Undermining Sector’s Relevance — Operator

The national president of the Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON), Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, has warned that persistent divisions, rivalry and unnecessary confrontations among industry players are undermining the sector’s relevance, credibility and capacity to influence national economic outcomes.

In a strongly worded statement, Ogunojemite, called on leaders and stakeholders in Nigeria’s freight forwarding and maritime sector to urgently reflect on the state of unity and collective responsibility within the industry.

He emphasised that leadership in the maritime industry must be grounded in maturity, vision, and responsibility, rather than actions that create confusion or instability within the system.

“At a time when the maritime sector remains central to Nigeria’s economic growth and trade competitiveness, internal discord only weakens our collective strength,” he said.

The APFFLON president urged industry leaders to recommit themselves to collaboration and structured engagement, noting that freight forwarding thrives on coordination and collective advocacy.

He also linked the call for unity to the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a major opportunity for reforms in port operations, trade facilitation, digitalisation and overall sector growth.

According to him, the maritime industry’s ability to effectively contribute to national development depends largely on presenting a united and credible front to the government and investors.

Ogunojemite outlined APFFLON’s core position, stating that unity strengthens negotiating power, cooperation enhances policy influence, stability attracts investor confidence, and collective engagement drives sustainable growth.

He cautioned against personal interests and association-based rivalries, describing them as threats to the profession’s integrity and future.

“The maritime industry is too strategic to be weakened by internal fragmentation. We must choose dialogue over division, collaboration over confrontation, and progress over politics,” he declared.

Reaffirming APFFLON’s commitment to harmony and responsible leadership, Ogunojemite said the association remains dedicated to constructive engagement with government and stakeholders in repositioning the freight forwarding sector as a strong partner in Nigeria’s economic transformation.
