Sokonte Davies, a close political ally of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice presidential candidate, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi, has resigned from the party and returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Davies, a former ADC governorship aspirant in Rivers State and ex-member of the House of Representatives, also announced his alignment with the Rainbow Coalition.

He disclosed this in Port Harcourt in a statement he personally signed.

Davies said his decision to return to the APC was not taken lightly but followed “deep reflections, patriotic convictions and a clear-eyed assessment” of where he could best serve the people and contribute to efforts to re-elect President Bola Tinubu.

He described the APC as a platform for progressive governance, national unity and grassroots development, saying these were among the reasons for his return to the party.

Pledging his loyalty to the APC, Davies promised to uphold its constitution, respect its leadership and work with stakeholders to strengthen the party at the ward, local government, state and national levels.

The former lawmaker said he would deploy his experience, network and goodwill in support of the party’s vision.

The former governorship aspirant thanked the leadership and members of the ADC, particularly at the national level, for giving him the opportunity to serve and for the camaraderie they shared.

Davies said his time in the ADC was marked by service and commitment, adding that he bore no ill will towards the party.

He described politics as “a marketplace of ideas, where people can disagree without being disagreeable”, while wishing the ADC well in its future endeavours.

The former governorship hopeful also expressed appreciation to the leaders who facilitated his return to the APC, particularly the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, and the party’s vice chairman, Chief Victor Giadom.

He also thanked party elders and members for their encouragement and acceptance, promising to work with them to advance their aspirations for Nigeria and Riv
