The elders of Rumundele community in Emohua local government area of Rivers State, have recovered two rifles taken away from soldiers in the community by suspected commander of a local vigilante group.
Soldiers from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army had invaded the community in an attempt to retrieve two rifles taken away from two soldiers who were attacked by local vigilante commander, Gift Ajuru.
The chairman of Emohua local government area, Dr Chidi Julius Lloyd, confirmed the retrieval of the fire arms while speaking on a live radio programme monitored in Port Harcourt yesterday.
Lloyd stated that the rifles were retrieved from Ajuru and handed over to the Nigerian Army, who has been in the community in search of the missing rifles since Sunday.
The Emohua local government chairman said normalcy has returned to the community following the recovery and return of the rifles.
Recall that Rumundele community were on Sunday, invaded by soldiers who were searching for two missing rifles and commander of a local vigilante group.
It was gathered that the vigilante commander, had attacked soldiers guarding an oil facility in the community and carted away their two rifles.
A native of the community, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said many residents were in the bush as at Sunday afternoon looking for a way to go out from the community.
