The Rivers State government has said it would sustain its collaboration with the Rotary Club and other partners to end polio in Nigeria and across the globe.

The state commissioner for health, Dr Adaeze Oreh, disclosed this while flagging off the 2024 World Polio Day immunisation exercise in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Oreh stated that observance of the World Polio Day signifies the importance of vaccination to protect children from the disease, which could cause paralysis in young children.

She said, “It just signifies an ongoing activity, which is the immunisation of our children against polio virus. It signifies the importance of vaccination protecting our children from preventable paralysis.

“All over the world, efforts are being made to ensure that polio is eradicated from our global village.
That is what we are doing.”

Also, the chairman of Nigerian National Polio Plus Committee, Joshua Hassan, said the committee’s presence in the country is to support Rotary International to ensure continuation of the campaign and eventual victory against polio.
