Rivers NDLEA Arrests 295 Drug Suspects, Seizes 562kg Of Illicit Substances

The Rivers State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 295 drug suspects in 2023, according to its commander, Mr. Ahmed Mamuda.

Among those arrested, 237 were males, and 58 were females. The command seized 562.239kg of assorted illicit drugs from the suspects, as stated by Mamuda.

The substances seized from the suspects included cocaine, heroin, hemp, methamphetamine, tramadol, codeine, Rohypnol, and Pentazocine.

Mamuda reported that the command secured the conviction of 115 males and 21 females, who also forfeited N1.2 million to the agency, while 47 cases were still pending.

The commander mentioned that the command successfully rehabilitated 53 drug-dependent males, who had been reunited with their families.

He added that the command provided counselling and aftercare treatment to 112 male and 35 female drug users in 2023.

In addition, the command conducted 118 drug abuse awareness and sensitization programs in 2023, as stated by Mamuda.
