Rivers Police Kill Suspected Notorious Sea Pirate John Togo

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have neutralised a suspected notorious sea pirate, John Togo, who was alleged to have been terrorising waterways in the state.

Addressing journalists at the State Police headquarters in Port Harcourt on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, said Togo had been a threat to drivers and passengers plying Bonny, Okirika and Port Harcourt water routes.

CP Disu, who described the suspected sea pirate as an anchor in the Iceland cult group, added that Togo had been involved in armed robbery, arms trafficking, sea piracy and kidnapping.

The Police Commissioner further revealed that the deceased was responsible for ambushes and killing of four security personnel around Degema local government area coastal community on Novembr 4, 2023.

He disclosed that the late Togo targeted commercial boats and in the process killed drivers and passengers.

Disu explained that, acting on credible intelligence, C41 Intelligence and Borokiri Police Division trailed Togo to his hideout where he engaged the security operatives in a shootout.

The Police Commissioner revealed that the suspected notorious sea pirate was neutralised in process of the shoot-out at his hideout.

He also announced that two suspects, Daniel Desmond, 28, and Uzodima Eze, 33, were apprehended by men of the C41 along Igwurita-Eneka Road in Port Harcourt on January 22, 2024.

Disu said the Police Officers searched the Keke (Tricycle) and Daniel was found carrying a sack bag with a day-old baby and the placenta inside.

He stated that the baby was rushed to hospital where the baby who was suffocating was subsequently revived.

Meanwhile, the Police Command has also rescued three kidnap victims abducted from their residence at Omuoluta Igwurita Ali in Ikwerre Local Government Area in the early hours of Sunday, January 28, 2024.
