The youths of Ikuru town in Andoni local government area of Rivers State have accused the traditional institution in the community of shortchanging them in employment slots given to the community by an indigenous oil company operating in the area.
The youths alleged that the chiefs hijacked nine of the 12 employment slots given to the Ikuru Town Youth Council by the oil firm.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt, a youth leader in the community, Ryder Hector Ikuru, lamented the injustice meted out to the youths by the chiefs.
He said, “The chiefs went and removed nine, out of the 12 slots given to the youths by Lekoil/Green Energy Company, which is operating in the town.
“They used their children, who were not part of the list, to replace those nine names. We want them to bring back those names they removed.
“We, the youths of Ikuru Town are not happy with what is happening in our community. What is due the youths are not getting to them, from Lekoil, which is the company operating in our area.
“We are angry because the youths are not benefitting anything from the oil company. We want our rights to be accorded us as youths of Ikuru Town,” he said.
