The Materials Research and Development Council has acknowledged Abia State’s vast natural and human resources endowments, describing them as strategic to diversifying the country’s economy.
The director general and chief executive officer of the council, Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso noted this when he led a team of the management to visit the state governor, Alex Otti in Umuahia, the state capital.
Ike-Muonso said the visit was to drive the council’s statutory mandate to drive industrialisation through sustainable development and utilisation of the country’s vast raw material resources.
He lauded Otti for his transformation agenda which has changed the narrative of the state and for being the first governor to grant his team access and audience for such engagement.
The council chief used the forum to invite the governor to the maiden edition of the Africa Raw Materials Summit taking place in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, later this month.
In a response, the governor expressed his administration’s willingness to partner the council in developing the state’s abundant raw materials and agricultural resources.
“The existence of the council is so important for the development of the country, especially in manufacturing and small scale industries,” Otti explained .
“We believe we can run the economy. Our administration is ever more than willing to partner with you and support you to succeed on your mandate.”
