Robbers Invade Radio Station, Cart Away Equipment In Kogi

Suspected armed robbers in the early hours of Saturday invaded Radio Nigeria Prime 101.5FM at Jimbe in Ajaokuta local government area of Kogi State, carting away transmission equipment worth millions of Naira.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the armed robbers operated for more than three hours without any challenge from security agencies.

Speaking to Journalists on Saturday, the General Manager of the Station, Momoh Jimoh Adeiza explained that they woke up to see that the station had been attacked by armed criminals who went away with their equipment.

“This is a major attack on the station. We are currently off air right now because our equipment have been stolen by these armed criminals. When they came, they tied up our security man on duty to carry out their nefarious activities. Where do we go from here now?”

He called on security agencies to double their efforts in apprehending the criminals, adding that the incident has been reported to the Zonal Director.

Adeiza, however, called on the relevant authorities to come the aid of the station to return back on air.

Narrating his ordeals with the suspected criminals, the security man on duty who was identified as Daniel Haruna, said the hoodlums were armed with dangerous weapons such as guns and cutlasses.

Haruna added they stole the copper part of the feeder lines, 22 pieces of modules, armoured cables, generator batteries, and other items during the attack.

“They were more than 10 armed criminals that attacked our station. They came around 1am this Saturday morning with guns and cutlasses. When they pointed touch light on me, they immediately gripped me and tied me to a tree and blindfolded my eyes.

“I could not scream because I was helpless. They operated for more than three hours before they left our station. I have never experienced this kind of thing before in my life,” he stated.

Our correspondent further learnt that aside from the theft of equipment, the hoodlums also destroyed some parts of the station.
