There was panic in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, on Monday when suspected armed robbers attacked the manager of Mobil Filling Station, Isah Yunusa, and dispossessed him of an unspecified amount of money.
The criminals reportedly shot him in one of his legs before zooming off with the cash.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the incident occurred in front of the Kogi State Revenue House, a few metres from the Police Headquarters.
According to the source, Yunusa was on his way to the bank to deposit the money from weekend sales when the robbers struck.
“We are still in shock after the brazen daylight robbery right in the heart of Lokoja, the state capital, which is just a few metres away from the Police Headquarters.
“The gunmen accosted the victim amidst sporadic gunfire, forcing him to stop. They shot at him before taking away the bag in his car,” the eyewitness said
When our correspondent visited the station in the popular Paparanda Square in Lokoja, it was sealed off by the police.
Another source claimed that all the station’s staff members were arrested for interrogation by the police. At the time of filing this report, the police command did not comment on the incident.
