Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed his departure from the Portugal national team camp, saying he will eventually disclose the reasons behind his decision.
The Al Nassr forward announced his departure following a press conference involving the national team and a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation.
“After the press conference of the national team, and following a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the national team camp,” Ronaldo said.
The 41-year-old did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding his decision, but said he would explain what prompted his departure at a later date.
“In time, I will tell all the Portuguese the truth about the reasons that motivated me to leave the national team, to which I always devoted myself,” he added.
Ronaldo, Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer and most-capped player, concluded by wishing the team and his international team-mates well.
“Now is the time to wish Portugal and all my teammates good luck, without exception,” he said.
His departure comes amid heightened attention surrounding the Portugal camp, with the forward leaving before the completion of the team’s current international assignment.
