Liam Rosenior’s tenure as Chelsea head coach is looking increasingly uncertain following Tuesday’s damaging 3-0 defeat to Brighton.
While Rosenior received public and private backing from the club’s hierarchy last week, no such assurances were forthcoming from BBC sources on Wednesday.
Furthermore, it is understood that a number of players are unconvinced by the 41-year-old, who arrived at Chelsea just over three months ago from their French partner club, Strasbourg.
The Brighton defeat marked Chelsea’s fifth consecutive league loss without scoring, a dismal run not seen in 114 years.
Supporters turned on Rosenior at the Amex Stadium, while the head coach publicly criticised his players after the match, describing their performance as both “indefensible” and “unacceptable.”
Chelsea currently sit seventh in the Premier League, five points adrift of a top-five spot and Champions League qualification, with only four matches remaining.
They are set to face Leeds in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday .
Rosenior signed a five-and-a-half-year deal in early January following the departure of Enzo Maresca. Prior to the Brighton defeat, Rosenior stated he felt “100%” support from the club’s ownership. Last week, influential co-owner Behdad Eghbali affirmed the hierarchy’s backing for Rosenior, adding: “Of course, it’s a results business, but we think he can be successful long term.”
