Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA yesterday commissioned a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facility at the Community Primary School, Ozuboko-Ama, in Port Harcourt City local government area of Rivers State.
Commissioning the project, the district governor, Rotary International, 9141, Chinedu Ikegwuani, called on the people of the community to protect the facility, pointing out that it would encourage the club to do more for the school.
Ikegwuani said, “I want to thank the headmistress and all the teachers in this school because you made it possible for us to be here today to commission this project. This is what we do, we can’t commission enough water project in Rotary because everywhere, every side, they need water. You will agree with me that water is life. Without water, none of us can exist.
“It happens to be one of our areas of focus; one of the areas where Rotary try to touch lives. We always ask our members to continue to commission water projects.
“What we normally ask from the stakeholders is that any facility we commission, they should take proper care of it. It is only when you take care of it that we can come back and do more. Also, it is part of education, which is one of our areas of focus. We try to upgrade the education system in our society.”
In his remarks, the president of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA, Douglas Okafor, said with the WASH facility, pupils of the school do not need to go outside the school premises to ease themselves.
