Rotary Club International, Bauchi State chapter has donated 1,000 textbooks to Zion Pilgrim Christ School and Samat International Academy, Yelwa Kagadama in Bauchi State.
Speaking during the distribution exercise yesterday, the president, Bauchi Rotary Club, Mr, Pam Dauda, said the gesture was a collaboration between Rotary club and Rotaract Club Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi.
According to him, the gesture is to help the schools improve and work better on their educational system.
Dauda, who explained that September is a literacy month of Rotary Club International, added that the club, as part of efforts to touch lives, was trying to ensure that education is made easier as books are difficult to get by some schools.
He said the club had put a focal person in place to monitor how effectively the books were being used and accessed in order to plan how to supply more books to them.
“We selected this Zion School because it’s a mixture pupils from internally displaced persons as well as orphans and it belongs to an orphanage.
“We believe this is a place you can impact more as they are people that need this gesture more,” he said.
Earlier, the president, Rotaract club, ATBU Bauchi, Ibrahim Saleh, told the pupils that they could only become leaders of tomorrow when they read and face their studies seriously.
Principals of the schools, Joel Jijingi and Ogbonna Fransisca, thanked the club for the kind gesture, saying books were essential tools for effective learning and teaching processes.
