Rotary Club of Port Harcourt in Government Reserved Area (GRA) has said it will continue to protect the interest of girl-child as it marches into the 2023/2024 Rotary year.
It also said it will build on community service, vocational service and youth development during the year by expanding its bond with local communities in Rivers State.
Speaking at her installation ceremony yesterday in Port Harcourt, the new president of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA, Jeane Ochen, said the club will extend its outreach to secondary schools in the state, by nurturing and empowering the youths to ensure the continuity of Rotary values and ideas.
Ochen said, “In this year, we will build on our club’s already established principles. We will build on community service, vocational service and youth development. By expanding our bond with local communities, we can identify their needs and implement sustainable solutions to address their challenges.
“We will continue to extend our reach to the girl-child and also promoting same in secondary schools by nurturing and empowering our youths to ensure the continuity of our Rotary values and ideas, fostering a new generation of leaders who will carry forward our noble mission.
“But, we cannot do this alone. Hence, we need partners and support from our friends and colleagues in the corporate world. To achieve a better society, we will need your commitment to bring out the best in this Rotary year.”
Earlier, the immediate past president of the club, Ozumoni Gudu, said in the 2022/2023 Rotary year that just ended, the club initiated, completed and commission 14 life-saving projects in different parts of the state.
Gudu stated that the club also embarked on a fact-finding mission to Bakana community in Degema local government area of the state, where there were reports of cholera outbreak.
She said, “We embarked on a fact finding visit to Bakana Community in Degema when there was cholera outbreak. Also, we visited public schools in Port Harcourt City local government area.
“At the end of my tenure as the president, I am delighted to inform this august gathering in July that 14 life-saving and impactful projects were initiated, concluded, commissioned and handed over to the benefiting communities.
“It is worthy to note that these projects were made possible by members contributions, sponsors and partners,” Gudu said.
